Does Therapy Work?

A therapist is able to evaluate a client through talking, listening, and observing. By doing this, a therapist can then help the client to realize exactly what is causing them unhappiness or discomfort in their lives. Once the problem is recognized, the therapist and the client work together to develop ways to help the client deal with these problems and maybe eventually find solutions.

Trust is very important in therapy because if the client does not trust the therapist, then he/she will not share with them openly and honestly. Speaking about sensitive and private topics such as relationships, disappointments, hopes, and feelings can be hard to talk about to someone who you are hardly know, so it usually takes a few meetings for the client to begin feeling comfortable enough to say what they want to say. A therapist is trained to be patient in waiting for the client to open up to them.

Therapy can always be beneficial in one way or another. Even if a client and therapist are unable to identify any problems or come up with any solutions, just talking about your problems to another person can be a major stress relief. Considering the many types of therapy and therapists, each individual is bound to find what they are looking for. One can not go into therapy looking for an immediate solution though, because like I said before, at times it takes many sessions for the client to become comfortable and able to share their true feelings.
